Naruyz Holiday with my English students

My second year students are great! They put together a cute Nauryz celebration at my college before I left to travel to Shymkent. This was my first Nauryz in Kazakhstan...actually ever. The more I reflect on my experience thus far, the more i realize that Im getting so much culture. Im learning a ton. And it feels great. Here is more info about Nauryz.

Nauryz is one of the oldest holidays on Earth. This holiday of spring and the renewed life of the Earth has been celebrated for over five thousand years by many cultures of the Middle and Central Asia and, according to some sources, by eastern Slavs as well.

For more information about this holiday check out : http://www.kazakhstan.orexca.com/nauryz.shtml

The students made traditional Kazakh food. It was Yummy.

Me and my students

So there is a black boy in my class. They claim he is Uszbek and Arab. But he was adopted, so i dont think they really know. Anyway, I say he is black. What say you?

Traditional Kazakh Dance

I kinda didnt get this tradition. So the boys put balloons under their shirts...

And then they have to pick up matches to see what it feels like to be pregnant. It was funny

One of the girls did a belly dancing routine.

It was kinda awkward, but the boys loved it.

And this part was dedicated to me....The Statue of Liberty! lol

Thanks guys. It was a great performance.

Be Blessed!
